DESCRIPTION; CHARSET=UTF-8 :The culture of the Ottoman Empire has been described as a culture created by the Mevlevi, the Sufi order founded to preserve and nurture the teachings of the mystical poet Mevlana Jalal al-Din Rumi. The lecture will explore the validity of the claim, describing the origin of the order in Konya after the death of Rumi in 1273 and considering the reasons why it was able to rise to such prominence in a highly competitive milieu, especially in Istanbul.
