DESCRIPTION; CHARSET=UTF-8 :
Rights violations in North Africa have increasingly been the subject of much discussion in the media as well as in academia. This seminar will consider the response of the African Union mechanisms charged with the promotion and protection of human rights on the African continent to these violations. In this regard, the work of the African Commission and African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights will be explored. Issues considered include, the right to life, women’s rights, democracy and transitions, rights of internally displaced persons, forced evictions, freedom from torture and fair trial rights.
