DESCRIPTION; CHARSET=UTF-8 :Natural History Museums (NHMs) are at the forefront of research on climate change, the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, and decolonization. The institutional histories, biographies and scientific value of the objects they house are increasingly scrutinized in an interdisciplinary manner, with historians and heritage researchers taking on leading roles. However, such research often focuses on European and colonial NHMs. My research aims to reconstruct the history of a non-western imperial NHM - the Ottoman Natural History Museum founded in Istanbul in the 1830s and destroyed by fire in 1848, along with all its collections and archives. The published results of my prior research in archives, including the Ottoman imperial archives and Vienna NHM archives, demonstrate that the museum was considered prominent and well-connected in its time. In this talk, I will present the findings of my recent research on the Ottoman NHM (supported by the SCI) in archives of NHMs in Florencehttp://www.exeter.ac.uk/events/details/?event=14824
