DESCRIPTION; CHARSET=UTF-8 :Over the last decade, with the rise of populist authoritarian nationalisms across the world, a much more explicit politics of whiteness and racial supremacy has returned to the public sphere. This has happened across the world - from the Middle East/North Africa to South Asia, South America and Eastern Europe/ Russia. Through SCI funding, we have built a network of scholars addressing this widespread revival of ‘whiteness beyond the West’. James Mark will discuss what is politically at stake in these revivals; the uses of ‘white innocence’; and the importance of history and memory to these racial myths that often underpin contemporary authoritarian turns.http://www.exeter.ac.uk/events/details/?event=14043
